Danish Bone Chess Set and Board, 19th century
A good 19th century Danish bone chess set, one side stained black, the other side left natural, kings with double galleries, queens with single galleries, bishops with caps and small ball finials in the alternate colour, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as turrets with reeded ‘beehive’ finials, pawns with baluster knops and elegant small urn finials, the king 8.7cm high, the pawn 4.8cm high, together with a 19th century mahogany inlaid chess board/box, with rosewood banding, alternate rosewood and boxwood chess squares and foliate decoration to the drawer, 30 cm wide.
