An Early German “Selenus” Bone Chess Set, 18th century

one side stained nut brown, the other side in polished bone, kings of slender form with double crowns, queen similar but of a smaller size, bishops with slanted caps, knights  with hooked “Sea-Horse” heads, rooks as slender domed turrets, pawns with baluster knops, in a wooden and metal mounted box or chest of a later date

King: 7.8cm high

Pawn: 3.8cm high

Box: 25cm wide
