An Anglo-Indian Export carved ivory chess set, Vizagapatam, circa 1830
one side stained nut brown, the other side left natural, kings and queens with foliate crowns, bishops with pierced mitres, knights as horses’ heads, rooks as turrets with brickwork, pawns with baluster knops and surmounted with gadrooned urns, the king 10.5cm high, the pawn 5.5cm high.
