An Indian parcel-gilt and polychrome games board, Kashmir, 18th century

painted and lacquered on wood, one side for chess, the other side for backgammon or “Nard', the chess side decorated with attractive motifs in the Islamic manner, depicting foilage, leaves and flowers; the backgammon side, again depicting multi-foliate decoration, roundels in green, red and blue and floral motifs; the board in two sections which slot together, 58.5cm long, 39.5cm wide, 3.2cm high. Rare.
