Shipping Ivory and Tropical Hardwoods

April 09, 2013

As a responsible seller, Luke Honey Ltd works closely with Taxidermy and Wildlife Law Consultants to keep up to date with the regulations on the trade in ivory and wildlife specimens at all times.

CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna) is an international agreement between governments drawn up in 1973. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.

Please note that antique elephant ivory and some tropical hardwoods will require a CITES export licence to export to destinations outside of the European Union. Our shippers will be happy to apply for a licence on your behalf. Elephant ivory items under 100 years old in date are likely to be denied a licence for import into the United States, and under recent legislation there may be further restrictions on the import of elephant ivory to certain US states.
