An original Jaques Staunton set from the 1860’s. Weighted. Sold with the attractive Jaques ‘Cartonpierre’ box- made from paper-mache in the Gothic style. The box is a little bit earlier, and dates from the 1850’s. “Entered Number” (ie Registration No) 2,836.

The famous Staunton pattern was first patented in 1849.
