Attractive and collectable piece from an 18th century Russian chess set. In Russian sets, the queen is replaced by a prince or vizier. This chessman comes from the Kholmogory area, which was known for its carved chess sets, which were intended for a Western export market. The vizier is in Roman dress, with neo-classical helmet, armour, cloak and spear.
