Interesting and unusual Cantonese Export chess set in the ever-desirable “Edinburgh” or “Northern” Upright pattern. The Canton trade lasted throughout the 19th century, but was at its peak during the first half of the 19th century. The red side has been stained with cochineal dye. Comes with an attractive chip-carved hinged board/box, with 2.6cm chess squares.
