An interesting mid to late 19th century variation on the famous English Staunton pattern, originally patented in 1849. This set was made in Canton for export to Europe. Although similar in style to the Staunton sets of Jaques, the knights are rather Chinese with their spiked manes and almost dragon-like features. Comes with an antique folding chess board, bound in leather.
