This set is similar to the Tomomitsu example in the Jaeger collection. See: "Scachspiele Wandel im Laufe der Kunst und Kultur geschichte: Privatsammlung Jaeger", 1988, page 38, figures 27, and another example by Yushin in the Ernst Boehlen Collection: "Scach: Kultur- Kunst- Philosophie Figuren und Spiele vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart", plate 80, page 66. Another very similar Japanese chess set was sold at Bonhams, Chess, Playing Cards & Games, 14th September 2011, lot 136.
