This edition has a new preface and contains a few revisions (e.g. in the Petroff Defence, p. 16-17 and the Allgaier Gambit, p. 38, 63-4). These charming books were designed for the Victorian railway traveller and sold at 'railway booksellers', such as W. H. Smith & Sons. Of a convenient size, they could be slipped into a gentleman's- or lady's- pocket with ease.
