Classic early 19th century chess set from Dieppe, Northern France. Typically, the red side represents the Moors, while the white side represents Europeans. Bishops are depicted as fools or jesters clutching churchwarden pipes, the Moorish pawns wear earrings. The white king and queen are nicely carved.
