jaques-style-st-george-chess-chess-set-circa-1880

Fabulous antique playing set. Weighted and in lovely condition. The “St George” pattern was a popular style during the 19th century (and especially before the Staunton Pattern was patented in 1849)  and named after the Howard Staunton’s chess club, the St George’s.

The set and box are very similar to the sets produced by Jaques, although this particular set is unsigned.
