Charming antique chess set from Switzerland. The Swiss Alps became a popular tourist destination for well-heeled British tourists during the 19th century and chess sets such as these were brought home as souvenirs.

I’ve described it as ‘miniature’, but ‘small size’ would, perhaps, be more accurate. The board measures just under 15cm across, and each chess square is 1.8cm wide. Unusual.
