south-german-pearwood-chess-set-circa-1800

August 08, 2017

Good example of a Nuremberg ‘toy’ chess set from the very early 19th century. These sets are similar in style to the Selenus Pattern, but have charming painted ‘eyes’. Pearwood- a light wood suitable for carving, was typically used in German chess sets.
