A late 19th/Early 20th century Staunton Pattern boxwood and ebony chess set, unknown English maker.

The knights' heads on the black side are carved from boxwood and then stained black, the remaining pieces on the black side are made from ebony.

Please note the similarities to the British Chess Company 'Popular' chess set. This set features five crenellations on the rooks, and BCC style crosses on the kings; however the Knights are not marked with crowns on the Kings's side.
