victorian-patent-chess-counters

October 19, 2016

Intriguing patent chess counters from the mid Victorian period, made of some form of molded or pressed composite material. The kings and queens are clearly inspired from playing cards. The pawn is similar to a Staunton pawn, which would indicate a date around or after 1849.

From the collection of the chess historian, Gareth WIlliams.
