Anri ‘Mediolanum'Chess Set
An Italian carved wooden ‘Mediolanum’ ‘bust’ chess set by Anri, Val Gardena, 20th century
one side with black bases, the other side left natural, all pieces with red felt to the underside, kings and queens as monarch, bishops with helmets, knights as horse’s heads, rooks as turrets, pawns as courtriers with beards, the king 9.9cm high, the pawn 5.5cm high, in a fitted wooden presentation box, with lift-out tray and metal clasp, 29cm wide.
