An Anglo-Indian Ivory Chess Set, 19th century
one side stained red, the other left natural, kings with urns and ball finials, queens similar, but of smaller size, bishops with open cleft mitres, knights as horses’ heads with manes and pricked up ears, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with ball finials, in the original mahogany box with a sliding lid, together with a 20th century Indian burrwood and satin-birch inlaid board (2)
King: 5cm high
Pawn: 2.6cm high
Board: 32.5cm wide, each square 3cm wide.
