the khaki canvas cylinder incorporating two cylindrical 'shakers' in red leather, sliding out to reveal a rolled leather chess board with black and red squares in gilt, and a red leather and gilt cylinder including a set of boxwood and ebony gaming counters for chess and backgammon and two dice, stamped: "PORTABLE B. C. D. BOARD...JAQUES PATENTEE LONDON"

Scarce.  The B. C. D. portable board was first patented by Jaques in 1858, and manufactured up until the outbreak of the Second World War.
