one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with multi-knopped columns, queens similar but of smaller size with reeded balls, bishops with split mitres, knights as carved horses’ heads, rooks as raised turrets with circular bases, pawns with baluster columns and ball finials,

Classic Victorian playing set, carved from ivory and one side stained with scarlet cocheneal dye. Well carved horse’s heads with flared nostrils and manes.
