the exterior for chess and nine men morris, the interior for backgammon or tric-trac with painted floral motifs, secured by an iron clasp

Age crack across one side. Some rubbing, minor wear, minor scratches, ‘nicks’ and minor dents. Original iron clasp.

Rare early games board from Southern Germany. Backgammon or tric-trac on the inside, chess and nine men morris on the outside. Nine men morris is a strategy game for two players, dating from the Roman Empire period and peaking in popularity during the Middle Ages.
The painted floral decoration is typical of Southern German and Austria.
