An English boxwood and ebony chess set
similar in style to the chess sets of John Calvert, 19th century, kings with urn tops and spire finials, queens with multi-knops and ball finials, bishops with cleft mitres, knights as carved horses’ heads, rooks as monbloc turrrets, pawns with knops and ball finials, the king 12cm high, the pawn 5.3cm high.
