One side has a slightly darker ‘toffee’ coloured patina. Pawns are mottled brown shells for one side, and light cream coloured shells for the other.
Signs of considerable age, brown staining, wear, rubbing through use and age oxidisation. Some chipping- two knights with one ear missing, one knight with both ears missing, finials chipped, one knight with considerable wear (plus ancient loss) to one side of the face.
