An "English Games" leather board/box, circa 1890
in the shape of a gilt-tooled book with double spine reading "English Games", the outside for chess, with alternate squares in black and beige, (each square 4.5cm wide), the inside for backgammon with alternate red and black points and further tooled decoration, and marbled edges, 52cm wide (when open), stamped "John Jaques & Son Ltd., Games Manufacturers, London.
