A Note From Luke

Albert Brenet was born in Harfleur in 1903 and was known, primarily, as a painter and illustrator of maritime, naval and aviation themes. He was appointed official painter to the French Navy in 1936 and subsequently produced stylish posters for airlines, shipping lines and the SNCF. He illustrated the posters for the launch and inaugural voyage of the S. S. Normandie liner in 1935 and the S. S. France in 1961. He died in 2005.
