An Antique Chinese Export Canton Ivory Figural Chess Set, circa 1820

one side stained red, the other side left natural, white king as King George III of Great Britain, white queen as Queen Charlotte, red king as the Chinese Emperor, red queen as the Chinese Empress, bishops as clerics or mandarins, knights as horsemen, rooks as elephants with flags (the white rook bearing the Union Jack), pawns as footsoldiers with muskets and spears
