the hardwood case with two brass carrying handles, brass mounts to the corners, and a sliding panel to the front, revealing five drawers with wooden handles, containing cow-bone and bamboo polychrome decorated tiles:

Good. Box in excellent condition. Tiles complete, the bone slightly yellowed in places and here showing natural flaws. One of the blank tiles has a hairline crack to the bone. Comes with quantity of scoring sticks, Tong box and dice box.

Good example of a vintage mahjong set from Shanghai. During the 1920s the area around Shanghai became a centre for the manufacture of mahjong sets, made primarily for export to the American and Western Europe.

This set is complete, and includes scoring sticks, dice box and Tong box. Ready to Go.
