one side stained red, the other side left natural, the white king stamped "JAQUES LONDON" on the underside of the base, the king 7.5cm high (3 inches), the pawn 3.8cm high, in a Gothic papier-mâché Cartonpierre box, 20.5cm wide, the interior with plum coloured and gilt-bordered velvet and a raised interior base, the lid attached with a leather flap, the red label to the underside of the base "Jaques London" with Howard Staunton's facsimile signature.
