An Antique “Selenus Pattern” Polished Bone Chess Set, Germany, 19th Century

one side stained black, the other side left natural, kings with pieced double galleries, queens with pierced single galleries, bishops with crowns, knights as horse’s heads, rooks as slended turrets, pawns with baluster knops, the king 12cm high, the pawn 4.5cm high, with a mahogany, boxwood and ebony inlaid board/box for chess and nine men morris, the interior inlaid in green baize, (with a brass hook clasp), 34.7cm wide, 10.2cm high and a set of 24 bone and ebony turned counters, each 2.4cm in diameter.
