An Indian Export Vizagapatam ivory chess set circa 1840

one side stained brown, the other side left natural, the chessmen with pierced multi-foliate decoration, kings and queens with galleries, queens with feather finials, bishops with mitres, knights as horsemen, rooks as turrets, pawns with baluster knops, the king 13cm high, the pawn 7.6cm high, in a fine Vizagapatam ivory, sandalwood and penwork decorated board/box in the shape of a book (with double spine and lock), 48cm wide, together with a set of turned and foliate decorated Vizagapatam ivory counters stained black and left natural, each 3.5cm wide.
