one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings and queens carved with foliate or flame leaf decoration, bishops as open mitres, knights as horse's heads, rooks as raised turrets with finials, pawns with baluster knops and ball finials, the king 10cm high, the pawn 4.5cm high.
