Chinoiserie Papier-Mâché Tray, circa 1840
A Large English Chinoiserie Lacquered Papier-Mâché Tray, circa 1840
of rectangular form, with gilt Chinoiserie decoration (featuring pagodas and turrets) to the raised border, in relief, painted lily leaves in green and gold to the centre against a black field
Stock Reference: LH 1857
Good. Unobtrusive old repair to bottom left corner (approx 5cm). A few minor scuffs to the surface and a 'craquelure' effect to the old varnish. Otherwise gilt decoration 'Very Good', without rubbing or wear. An attractive antique tray in a decent condition.
A Note From Luke
A rather beautiful Early Victorian/William IV papier-mâché tray of a decent size (69cm wide). Lacquered in black with luminous highlights in gilt, and subtle green lily leaves. Is going to make somebody a fabulous drinks tray.
