A luxury gilt-tooled and red leather bound chess and backgammon board, 1950’s
the exterior for chess with alternate squares in cream and red, the interior for backgammon, in the form of an ‘antiquarian’ book when closed shut, the spine with raised bands and THE HISTORY OF ENGLAND...VOL. I...VOL. II in gilt, imitation book edges lined with marbled paper, the interior with backgammon gilt-tooled points in red and burgundy, 53.5cm wide (when open flat), 27cm wide (when closed), 10.5cm deep (when closed) with an accompanying set of 30 red and white celluloid backgammon men, 3.7cm (in diameter) housed in gilt-tooled leather cylinder shakers, four celluloid die and a celluloid doubling up cube.
