An English Ivory Chess Set in the “Calvert Style”, circa 1850
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings surmounted with urn finials, queens with ball finials, bishops with open mitres, knights as carved horses’ heads with flared nostrils and manes, rooks as turrets with castellations, pawns with ball finials, in a 19th century rosewood and brass mounted box with a hinged lid
King: 8cm high
