An English Ivory Chess Set, circa 1790
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with elegant slender columns and double galleries, queens similar, but of smaller size and with one gallery, bishops with split mitres, knights with arched horses’s heads, rooks as raised turrets with brickwork, pawns with baluster columns and ball finials in the original box with a sliding lid
