An English Ivory Chess Set, circa 1790

one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with elegant slender columns and double galleries, queens similar, but of smaller size and with one gallery, bishops with split mitres, knights with arched horses’s heads, rooks as raised turrets with brickwork, pawns with baluster columns and ball finials in the original box with a sliding lid

King: 7.9cm high

Pawn: 3.1cm high

Box: 12.9cm long

White Side

A few minor hairline age cracks, surface dirt, hairline crack to base of rook.

Red Side

Nice even red stain. Tiny chip to crown of queen, otherwise Very Good”. 

Box

Loss to top rim, crack to lid, otherwise “Good”.
