A “Four Inch” English Ivory Playing Chess Set attributed to Dorothy Calvert, circa 1820-30
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with multiple ball finials and surmounted with Maltese Crosses, queens with feather finials, bishops with open split mitres and ball finials, knights with carved manes and flared nostils, rooks as reeded monobloc turrets, pawns with ball finials
King: 10.7cm (4.2 inches) high
Pawn: 5cm high (2.1 inches) high
