French “Cuirassier” Chess Set, circa 1800
An interesting French polished bone and dark brown stained fruit-wood chess set, circa 1800
kings and queens with urn shaped central sections, bishops with “hats”, knights with Neo-Grecian cuirassier helmets, rooks as squat turrets, pawns with balustered columns, the king 7cm high, the pawn 3.8cm high.
