An Early German “Selenus” Bone Chess Set, 18th century
one side stained nut brown, the other side in polished bone, kings of slender form with double crowns, queen similar but of a smaller size, bishops with slanted caps, knights with hooked “Sea-Horse” heads, rooks as slender domed turrets, pawns with baluster knops, in a wooden and metal mounted box or chest of a later date

“Very Good”. The usual minor scuffs, surface scratches and natural flaws. Some slight variation/rubbing to brown stain. Nice set.
Box of a later date. Condition, good, no obvious defects.

Early Central European chess set in an 18th century variation on the “Selenus”. Note especially the hooked knight’s horse heads. The white side has been polished to a pleasing finish.
