A German “Selenus Pattern” bone chess set, 19th century

one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with double galleries, queens with single galleries, bishops with slender columns and ball finials, knights with arched horses’ heads, rooks as slender domed turrets, pawns with baluster knops, the king 10.3cm high, the pawn 4.9cm high, together with a wooden games board/box for chess, backgammon (painted points in red and blue) and Nine Men Morris, with a metal hook clasp, 30.5cm wide (when closed), 7cm high, 61cm wide (when open flat) (2).
