A good Anglo-Indian Export ivory chess set, circa 1840
one side stained green, the other side stained dark chocolate brown, kings and queens with large reeded knops under spire finials, bishops with pierced mitres, knights as horse’s heads over baluster knopped columns, rooks as raised turrets with brickwork, pawns with slender baluster stems, all the chessmen over stepped circular bases, the king 12.4cm high, the pawn 4.4cm high.
