the boxwood king stamped JAQUES LONDON in black along the rim of the base, green baizes to the undersides of the chessmen, in a late 19th century F. H. Ayres mahogany box, the interior lined with green baize, with the original key

Condition

Boxwood Side:

Good rich colour, neat repair to crown of queen, minor hairline age crack to base of queen, neat repair to bishop top, tiny chip to rim of one rook, neat repair to collars of two pawns.

Ebony Side:

Nice figuring to the ebony, two ears chipped on one knight, tiny chip to one pawn collar.

Box:

Good. Original key. A few minor scuffs. Green baize ‘Very Good’.

Quality antique Staunton chess set from the famous old company of Jaques, London. Nice rich colour to the boxwood. Comes in a late 19th century mahogany box by F. H. Ayres (with original key).
