A Collection of Ten Indian Export ivory Chessmen, Rajasthan, circa 1840
including an elephant king or queen, the lacquered and polychrome painted ivory with a predominantly cream field, two princes riding in a howdah, the elephant with gilt rockets or cannons to the side, over a decorated base with canted corners, 14cm high, 4cm wide, 8cm long, two smaller elephant chessmen (one bearing the flag of the East India Company), two horsemen knights, red elephant bishop, three infantry pawns, and a larger musician pawn with a flute, the smallest chessman 5.7cm high, the largest chessman 9.9cm high (10)
