one side stained red, the other side left natural, knights as horse’s heads with incised decoration, in a specially made mahogany fitted box with a sliding lid and lifting tray lined in green baize, with leather pulls

“Very Good” to “Excellent”.  Slight yellowing to the white side, with some hairline age cracks. Box excellent.

A Staunton pattern ivory chess set of good quality and dating from the 1930’s. The knights have Art Deco detailing. The previous owner had a wooden presentation case made up to house the set. Brilliant present for a serious chess player of taste and discrimination.
