An interesting polished bone ‘Selenus’ pattern chess set, Germany or Central Europe, circa 1830, one side stained black or a very dark brown, kings with pierced double galleries, queens with pierced single galleries, bishops with cogged finials, knights with unusual ‘rocking horses’, rooks as slender turrets, pawns with baluster knops, the king 11.5cm high, the pawn 4.8cm high.
