Charming little dog. A ‘toy’ dating from the mid 19th century. Made from elephant ivory, it has been painted in red and black, and then lacquered- typical of Rajasthan work, and not unsimilar to the well-known chess sets made at the same time. The head has been carved from a separate piece of ivory and then attached to the body by a peg.
