A beautiful antique English set, which can be attributed to George Merrifield. This set is very similar to a set hold in the Jon Crumiller Collection, both sets show knights in the Merrifield style, with ‘double stacked’ rooks. Merrifield was an ivory turner based in Holborn, London, working in the period circa 1819-1852.
The set comes in its original mahogany presentation case, with two lift out trays housing the chess pieces.
